Each handcrafted 2.5” x 6.5” double-sided tide pool bookmark includes:

Two glossy back-to-back 2” x 6" photographs
Extra thick 5 mil. clear plastic lamination
1/4" clear border
Organism identification label on one side (under the laminate)

Our gorgeous double-sided bookmarks are the second edition of a long-standing customer favorite! These new and improved glossy bookmarks have been laminated nearly twice as thick as our first edition design and feature a gorgeous glossy tide pool photograph on not one but both sides. Our photos are printed in-house onto Canon photo paper, which are then lightly glued back-to-back before a scientific identification label is affixed to one side. We examine all of our bookmarks closely in bright light for any dust or fingerprints before hand feeding them through a heavy duty laminator. At Friendly Fungus Photography, we experimented with different laminating machine brands and several types of laminating pockets before settling on the Scotch materials we use today. Our bookmarks are durable, waterproof, and likely to coax out an internal “ooh” or “ahh” at every glance!

Our brilliantly colorful handcrafted note cards—each featuring a crisp photograph of a Mendocino Coast tide pool scene—are the perfect tool to deliver life's most important messages!

We stand behind our superior note cards for the high quality art that they are. At Friendly Fungus Photography, we have experimented with a variety of different paper products in order to deliver a note card that is of the highest caliber. Our photos are printed in-house onto glossy Canon photo sheets, which we then carefully hand affix onto heavyweight white card stock. All of our cards receive a scientific identification label on the back, equipped with a unique description of the pictured organism, and each card is hand-stamped with our official silver seal of love and authenticity. Finally, we conduct a quality control inspection on each and every card we create. Every card comes with one white envelope and is safely sealed in clear plastic.

We’ll be the first to admit: we tried to create our own vinyl stickers—but we just weren’t satisfied with the results. Despite great efforts taken in mastering the sticker making process—from our choice of vinyl sheets, to the type of ink used, to the acrylic sealer applied for waterproofing—we looked at every detail with the hope of creating the perfect product in-house… but sometimes a professional product simply requires a truly professional touch! That’s why we decided to look for a partner to make our sticker vision become a reality.

Why Choose Our Guides?

After exploring the Mendocino Coast’s treasure-laden tide pools for many years, we felt strongly that existing tide pool identification guides on the market had blind spots when it came to local use:

— a tendency to include a too-large geographic footprint means guides lack adequate specificity (California has 840 total miles of coastline; the Mendocino Coast covers only 90 miles, but is home to over 300 intertidal species)

— illustrations are typically chosen over real photographs, lending increased difficulty in accurate field identifications due to creative liberties and look-alike species

— these guides are often part of a larger collection, and/or are published elsewhere, suggesting a lack of “real world” experience on our coast and a questionable conceptualization of our actual intertidal environment

Our “Tide Pools of the Mendocino Coast” photographic identification guides solve all of these problems!

Our products feature real photographs (all taken locally by us—experienced naturalists and tide poolers!) and only include creatures found in the area, with an emphasis on the most common. In addition to the organisms included on the guides, each product also includes a typewritten link to our actively expanding online catalog that features up to over 105 additional organisms!
